Lockdowns again....

Can we take a little moment here? The omicron variant of COVID is running rampant, and my kid's school just sent home a laptop so that when (in the (likely) event) school closes that she can do remote learning.

Usually here we focus on paradigm shifts to happiness. However, COVID has forced many unhealthy, emotionally destructive paradigm shifts on us. Isolating us, dividing families, splitting children from their friends, these are toxic social shifts that are eroding our mental well-being.

This is not normal. This is not a paradigm shift to adopt and welcome into our hearts. Those who have felt good about staying home and being introverted are missing the point. Humans are social creatures and they need each others' company.

So we must adapt and do the best we can to safely defy the downward slide of antisocial behaviour being forced upon us by COVID, social media (ironically), cars and suburbs. How can we do that? Write an email to a friend you haven't seen in a while, getting right into the weeds on the minutia of your life. Call your Aunt or cousin you haven't seen in a while to reconnect. Plan a dinner over video with your parents. And don't forget to keep tabs on those friends who live alone; no one can stand such isolation alone.

We are all in this together, and let's act like it. Because there is no "I" in Team.

Humanity, compassion, love and friendship for the win.

Happy reading,

Rachel
